Welcome to Pioneer Soccer

The Providence Varsity Boys played Bedford North Lawrence (BNL) in the final round of the Hoosier cup in Bloomington.  The Pioneers struck in the 5^th minute when Andrew Wimp played a nice direct kick from mid field over the defense to Josh Maled who headed the ball past the hard charging BNL keeper and into the goal.  Josh was injured in the ensuing collision with the keeper and was out for the remainder of the game.  At the 30 minute mark PHS got their second goal when a throw in was nicely touched over to the weak side of the goal by Max Neace.  Senior midfielder Trent Brown was there to head the ball past the BNL defense to make the score 2-0.

PHS took at 2-0 lead into the half.

The Pioneers came out flat the second half and opened the door for BNL when at the 25 minute mark the defense failed to close down on a BNL midfielder racing down the left side.  The goal fired up the BNL team and they then equalized the score 5 minutes later on a botched clearance that resulted in a hand ball by the PHS keeper just outside the box.  The direct kick by BNL went straight into the PHS wall but the wall parted like the red sea and the goal went cleanly into the right side of the goal.  The Pioneers finally woke up and stated to take the game to BNL.  With just 2 minutes remaining in the game Senior Westin Schrank made a long run with the ball from his right back position up the middle of the BNL defense and took a well place low shot that the BNL keeper just got his hand on to prevent the goal.  Pierce Crawley was there to clean up the deflected shot and put the Pioneers up 3-2 and to preserve the win.  The PHS record improved to 2-3-2.
