Varsity vs. St. Xavier

 

The Providence Varsity Boys played the ranked (KY) St. Xavier Tigers on Thursday 9/9/10.  PHS gave up a goal at the 4 minute mark when the PHS defense cleared a ball to the middle which was run onto by a St. X forward who blasted the ball into the right side of the goal.  Two minutes later a St. X defender played the ball in from the right side to a St. X forward who received the ball in front of the PHS goal and placed it perfectly into the left side of the goal.  With 19 minutes left in the half the Tigers notched their third goal when a Tiger forward pulled the trigger from outside the 18 yard mark as the PHS defense dropped back in defense.  A minute later the same St. X forward got in behind the PHS back line and slotted a shot past the PHS keeper to make the score 4-0.  With 15 minutes left in the game a poorly played PHS direct kick was picked off in front of the PHS goal for yet another 1 v 1 opportunity against the PHS keeper.  The ensuring shot found the back of the next to make the score 5-0.

 

PHS played the second half against the St. X second string and thanks to some excellent goal keeping by Junior Aaron Burns the final score remained 5-0.  The PHS record dropped to 2-4-2.
