Providence v.s. SeymourAugust 21, 2009Varsity: Providence 0 - Seymour 1 Junior Varsity: Providence 3 - Seymour 0
Varsity vs Seymour The Providence Varsity Boys traveled to Seymour Owls Saturday August 21. The Pioneers came out flat and where immediately back on their heels defending against the Seymour attack. At the 28 minute mark Seymour was awarded a PK on a PHS foul in the box. Senior keeper Taylor Hamblin made a nice diving save to his left and stopped the Seymour penalty kick. The Owls got on the board with 2:36 left in the first half when they broke through the PHS defense to slip a shot past the Providence keeper. The Pioneers only managed a few weak shots in the half and failed to but the ball on frame when the Owl keeper got caught out of the goal. Taylor Hamblin played a suburb half and kept PHS within striking distance with 7 saves. The half time score was 0-1.
PHS came out after the half and managed to posses the ball more and to make some runs into the Seymour defensive third. Numerous off side calls stalled the PHS attack. The increased possession resulted in very few shots on goal and the Owl keeper was never really tested. The best opportunity of the half came when Andrew Wimp beat his defender to the end line and crossed the ball to a charging Wade Brown who just failed to connect and sent the shot wide. Taylor Hambling played the best game of his career but in the end it was a 0-1 loss for the flat Pioneers. PHS drops to 1-1-0. Next Game – Floyd Central.
