The Providence Pioneer girls soccer team opened their regular season
tonight playing away against the Bullitt East Chargers. PHS started very
strongly with 4 goals in the first 22 minutes. Casey Marlin got on the
board first at the 3 minute mark and had a hat trick with 18 minutes
left in the first half. She was assisted in the scoring column in the
first half by a follow-up shot in the box by Sophomore, Rachel Wells.
Half-time showed PHS with a dominating 4-0 first half lead. Casey Marlin
came out and scored twice more in the first 15 minutes of the second
half before going to the bench with 5 goals total to add to her school
record all-time scoring
record. She was assisted in the second half by 2 excellent corner kicks
which also led to scores.
The first was a Kasey Wallace (sophomore) beauty to senior Kelsey Rogers
on the far post for a one-touch put-away. The second was nearly
identical to the first, with Alyssa Jones (freshman) firing the corner
to another freshman, Abby Hendershot.
The final score of 8-0 left Providence head coach, Dave Smith, sayng
that he was "happy with a great start to the season, glad to get
significant playing time for all the varsity
