Providence 8 – Bullitt East 0

The Providence Pioneer girls soccer team opened their regular season tonight playing away against the Bullitt East Chargers. PHS started very strongly with 4 goals in the first 22 minutes. Casey Marlin got on the board first at the 3 minute mark and had a hat trick with 18 minutes left in the first half. She was assisted in the scoring column in the first half by a follow-up shot in the box by Sophomore, Rachel Wells.

Half-time showed PHS with a dominating 4-0 first half lead. Casey Marlin came out and scored twice more in the first 15 minutes of the second half before going to the bench with 5 goals total to add to her school record all-time scoring record. She was assisted in the second half by 2 excellent corner kicks which also led to scores.

The first was a Kasey Wallace (sophomore) beauty to senior Kelsey Rogers on the far post for a one-touch put-away. The second was nearly identical to the first, with Alyssa Jones (freshman) firing the corner to another freshman, Abby Hendershot.

The final score of 8-0 left Providence head coach, Dave Smith, sayng that he was "happy with a great start to the season, glad to get significant playing time for all the varsity players, but realizing that the team still has a long way to go." PHS outshot Bullitt East 22 to 2 in "on-goal" shots and had 5 assists (Leah Mattingly, Kasey Wallace, Rachel Wells, Alyssa Jones, and Sarah Posante each had one assist).
