Providence v.s. Christian Academy of LouisvilleSeptember 1, 2011 at CALProvidence 1 - Christian Academy of Louisville 0
Its hard to imagine two teams with
a more evenly balanced history between them. Most years this game is
very low scoring and not decided until the end. The past 2 years have
ended in 0 to 0 ties. This year appeared to be another "ground-hog day"
for the Providence Pioneers and the Christian Acadamy of Louisville
Centurions. The first half ended 0 to 0 with only a couple of contested
shots on goal by either team.
CAL came out very determined to protect their home turf in the second half and had PHS almost on the ropes on several occasions with 6 corner kicks. Somehow PHS always had some kind of answer and never gave up. In fact, the game looked over with less than 10 seconds to go and PHS had the ball far from the CAL goal when freshman, Alyssa Jones, launched a ball into the box. A huge scramble took place with less than 2 seconds to go when a huge roar went up from the PHS stands as the clock struck zero! Somehow the ball got loose from CAL goalie, Taylor Smith, and junior Erin Duncan from PHS was in the right place at the right time as she slipped the ball into the net. The final shot talley saw a
close advantage for PHS over Cal with 5 shots to 3. I'm sure next year
will bring more of the same in this great rivalry. Next up for the
Pioneers will be the Floyd Central Highlanders this coming Tuesday. PHS
now has won all 8 of their games. |
