Providence v.s. New AlbanySeptember 27, 2011 at New Albany (Prosser)Providence 1 - New Albany 0
The Providence-New Albany game is
probably circled on all the players and fans calendars as soon as the
game is scheduled. This huge rivalry is what makes high school sports so
exciting. No matter if it is raining, snowing, or just plain muddy like
it was this year, there seems to be an edge of excitement not found in
many of the other contests. New Albany came out strong trying to protect
their home turf while holding undefeated Providence to a 0 to 0 halftime
score. PHS did have a 8 to 1 shot advantage in the first half, but it
seemed much closer as neither team had very many serious threats on
goal.
The 2nd half stayed close until Providence mid-fielder, Kasey Wallace, picked a ball away from the NAHS defense and went storming in on goalie, Taylor Briscoe. Briscoe came out strong on Wallace and forced her to almost go behind the goal before sliding a beautiful shot across to the far post where it slid into the net for the only score of the evening in the 63rd minute of play. The final shot talley was in favor of Providence 12-1. New Albany fell to 8-4-2 on the season as Providence sent their record to 12-0-2. Both teams have 2 games left this week before entering sectionals next week.
