Providence v.s. South OldhamAugust 10, 2011Providence 2 – South Oldham 2
The Providence Pioneer
girls soccer team hosted the South Oldham Lady Dragons at
Providence Field Saturday evening, August 10. This was a renewal
of an old rivalry that was last contested in 2004. The Lady
Dragons have a rich history with multiple Kentucky state
championships to their name, thus the undefeated (10-0) Lady
Pioneers came into this game with a great deal of respect for
their opponent but certainly showed no fear.
In fact, PHS dominated large portions of the game and went into halftime with a 1-0 lead off a free kick from Leah Mattingly at the 31 minute mark. The second half began with a light drizzle and a score from Stephanie Rowland of S.Oldham at the 5 minute mark. Providence answered with a perfected placed penalty kick from Leah Mattingly in the 22nd minute. PHS appeared to have things going their way until an off the ball foul was called on PHS and Kacie Hall of South Oldham made a nice shot off a free kick with only 4 minutes left in the game. PHS kept attacking but couldn't find the net again. PHS outshot S.Oldham 21 - 3 on goal but couldn't pull off the win but can still lay claim to being undefeated and ready to challenge Madison this coming Monday evening at Madison.
