Providence v.s. SeymourOctober 4, 2011 at SeymourProvidence 5 - Seymour 0
The Providence Pioneers headed
up I-65 Sat morning with a mission of putting the finishing touches
on an undefeated season. It only took 4 minutes before all-time
leading scorer Casey Marlin captured a through ball in the box from
center-mid, Erin Duncan, and deftly stroked the ball into the back
of the net. Marlin followed up with a breakaway on a nice pass from
defender, Leah Mattingly, to put the Pioneers up 2 to 0 just 14
minutes into the contest.
The Owls of Seymour tried to salvage the game but the "Brick Force" defense of PHS always seemed to have the answer. Finishing off the 1st half scoring at the 37 minute mark was a 25 yard blast by Duncan. Changing ends of the field for the 2nd half found Providence playing into the same strong winds that Seymour faced in the 1st half. PHS did manage one more
score at the 14 minute mark by Marlin to complete her "hat trick."
Providence now finds themselves at 14-0-2 heading into the
sectionals this coming Tuesday night. They hope to add to their
legacy as the only undefeated team in the history of Providence High
School. |
