Varsity vs. New Albany

The Providence Varsity Boys played local rival New Albany in front of a large crowd at Prosser Field on Tuesday 9/14/10.  The Pioneers struck in the third minute when a throw in from the left hand side was touched by Max Neace to Pearce Crawley who slotted the ball cleanly past the keeper to make the score 1-0.

Four minutes later Senior keeper, Taylor Hamblin came out large on a nice 1 v 1 stop on a Bulldog breakaway to preserve the 1-0 lead.  PHS controlled the ball and had a near miss when Wade Brown drop in behind the defense off a throw in but send the ensuring shot just over the cross bar.  The half time score was 1-0.

The Pioneers controlled the ball during the second half getting several attempts on goal.  The defense lead by stopper Andrew Wimp and Senior sweeper Jon Rogers kept the New Albany counter attack offense at bay.

With just under two minutes remaining in the game midfielder Pearce Crawley took a quick throw in to Senior striker Wade Brown who bent a shot from the left touch line into the right side netting of the goal with some wicked spin.  The final score was PHS 2 and New Albany.  The PHS record improved to 3-4-2.  Next up Holy Cross.
